Diamonds
To ensure that our clients select the perfect stone to meet their desires and budget, we ensure that education remains at the core of the AGJ diamond experience. The 4c’s of diamonds are carefully explained in a one-on-one engagement with our clients.
At AGJ, we are highly selective of the stones that we stock as we want to ensure that our clients only have the best possible quality placed before them. In addition to ensuring the quality of our diamonds, we also only associate with the top polishers of diamonds and in so doing have access to the widest selection of diamonds within South Africa. In addition to the selct supplier base, we also only make use of the most stringent grading laboratory’s available. GIA (Gemmological institute of America) and EGL (European Gemmological laboratory SA).
Our partners are able to offer us a network that ensures that every need a client may have is met with the perfect stone. All of our diamonds are sourced from suppliers that adhere to the strict code of conduct, namely the Kimberly accord. This ensures that we only stock “Conflict free” diamonds, and peace of mind is guaranteed.

Tanzanite
1000 time rarer than diamonds, Tanzanite has the most intriguing story to tell. And who better to tell the enchanting story of Tanzanite, than the specialists from AGJ. Tanzanite forms the core of our business offering and we have made certain that we are able to offer service and selection around this magnificent, uniquely African stone.
In order to protect our consumer from the sub-standard quality stones found in the general market place, we ensure that our tanzanite is sourced from the true origins of tanzanite, namely the mines in Arusha.
To unlock the true beauty of Tanzanite, we pain staking select only the very best stones available based on their intense colours, wonderful shapes and sizes. In addition to the afore mentioned, we also ensure that the stones are perfectly polished, even if this means re-polishing a stone for it to achieve perfect symmetry and shape.
All of our tanzanite is authenticated by means of accurate certification, done by stringent laboratories known to specialise in this unique gemstone. We take into account the key factors of each stone, namely the size, colour and clarity.
Tsavorite
The shining green Tsavorite is a young gemstone with a very long geological history. Its home is the East-African bushland along the border between Kenya and Tanzania. The few mines lie in a uniquely beautiful landscape of arid grassland with bare, dry hills. There, near the world-famous Tsavo National Park, a British geologist by the name of Campbell R. Bridges discovered the stone in 1967. In honour of the Tsavo National Park, with its abundance of game, and the Tsavo River which flows through it, the former president of Tiffany & Co. Henry Platt, proposed the name ‘Tsavorite’.
What is it that makes the Tsavorite so desirable? Well, for one thing there is its vivid, radiant green. The colour range of the Tsavorite includes a spring-like light green, an intense blue-green and a deep forest green – colours which have a refreshing and invigorating effect on the senses. However, this gemstone is also valuable on account of its great brilliance. It has, like all the other garnets, a particularly high refractive index.
Unlike many other gemstones, Tsavorite is neither burnt nor oiled. Another positive characteristic is its robustness. It has almost the same hardness as the (considerably more expensive) emerald, – approximately 7.5 on the Mohs scale – but it is markedly less sensitive. It is well suited to the popular ‘invisible setting’, in which the stones are set close by one another, a technique which ought not to be used with the more sensitive emerald.
There’s something very special about this young gemstone with the very long history. At AGJ we will ensure that we source the most spectacular Tsavorite stone for you. With its fresh, vivid green, its good wearing qualities, great brilliance and reasonable prices, it is surely one of the most convincing and honest gemstones that exist.
